White Arkitekter shortlisted for three awards at WAF 2018

Two completed and one future project have been shortlisted in the World Architecture Festival Awards. White’s designs for Carlanderska Hospital, Chalmers Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering and Panzi Hospital have a chance of winning an award at the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam this November.

Carlanderska Hospital – New and Old (completed buildings)
Carlanderska Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, has provided specialist healthcare to public and private patients since 1927. In 2017, a much-needed extension added space for modern technology. To retain the hospital’s atmosphere, the new structure echoes the original plans while displaying its own unique character.

Panzi Hospital – Health (future project)
Panzi Hospital provides care for women subjected to sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A new mother-baby unit is planned to reduce maternal and post-natal mortality rate, support positive birth experiences for the women of Bukavu, and to improve the working conditions for the hospital’s dedicated staff.

Chalmers Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering – New and Old (completed buildings)

Merging two previously separate departments into the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering called for a redesign to create modern ways of working. The central idea has been to create more open spaces for people to meet and make the activity within the facility visible. Focusing on the interior, the architects changed the building’s static and closed form to create a variety of meeting places that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.
