Two of our projects Highly Commended at the EHD Awards

We are proud to share that two of our transformation projects – Lidingödoktorn’s Health Centre and The Reuben Young People’s Centre at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital were Highly Commended at this year’s European Healthcare Design (EHD) Awards, presented at the EHD Congress in London.

The EHD Awards is one of the most prestigious international accolades in healthcare architecture, celebrating design excellence that enhances health, wellbeing and sustainability.

The Reuben Young People’s Centre

The Reuben Young People’s Centre was recognised in the Interior Design and the Arts category. The project involved the transformation of a 26-bed inpatient ward for paediatric and adolescent patients. In close collaboration with CW+ and clinical teams, the space was carefully designed to feel emotionally supportive and radically different from typical hospital environments. With biophilic elements, soft textures and bespoke art installations by Sas & Yosh and Jo Peel, the design connects young patients to the outside world and promotes comfort and recovery.

Creating a calm, healing environment for young people was our guiding ambition. We’re honoured that the project has been recognised at the EHD Awards.

Earlier in June, the project also received the Art Installation of the Year award at the 2025 Design in Mental Health Awards – further recognition of the integral role art plays in creating therapeutic healthcare environments for young people.

Lidingödoktorn’s Health Centre

Lidingödoktorn’s Health Centre was Highly Commended in the Design for Adaption and Transformation category. Located in a former AGA factory in Dalénum, Lidingö, the project reimagines a historic industrial building as a modern, accessible and welcoming health centre. White Arkitekter led the interior architecture and lighting design, focusing on reuse, material depth and patient wellbeing – all while preserving the building’s original character.

Our goal was to design a space where people come first – patients, staff and visitors alike. It’s fantastic to see the project acknowledged in the transformation category.

These acknowledgements are a testament to the power of design to shape inclusive, sustainable and future-ready healthcare environments – and to the close collaborations that made them possible.

In addition to the awards, we were also pleased to contribute to the EHD Congress programme with two presentations. Paula Block Philipsen presented Skåne University Hospital under the theme “Health-promoting healthcare in a sustainable urban environment”, highlighting the long-term architectural value of Malmö’s major hospital redevelopment. Anders Medin shared findings from a recent post-occupancy study of Värnamo Operation and ICU Clinic – a project previously commended in the 2020 EHD Awards – in the “Health Planning and Investment” session, exploring how key ideas in healthcare architecture perform in real-world use.
