Södra Älvsborg Hospital Psychiatric Clinic was inaugurated in October last year with the aim to design Sweden’s best psychiatry with the dignity of a public building, yet without the feeling of a closed institutional facility.
Today, the shortlist for the European Healthcare Design 2021 Awards was revealed. And we are very delighted that Södra Älvsborg Hospital Psychiatric Clinic has been shortlisted in the category Mental Health Design.
Södra Älvsborg Hospital Psychiatric Clinic was inaugurated in October last year with the aim to design Sweden’s best psychiatry with the dignity of a public building, yet without the feeling of a closed institutional facility.
We are very delighted that we have been shortlisted for this reputable award, recognising design excellence in the healthcare environment all over the world.
The new clinic is a healing environment that protects the patient’s integrity and offers a calming workplace for the staff. By adopting a humanist design approach that encourages interaction with the nature, the clinic provides a safe haven for patient recovery, relatives and staff alike. For some time now, there has been a healthy questioning of traditional care environments. In this project, destigmatising mental health has been a high priority.
The winners are announced at a ceremony at the European Healthcare Design 2021 Congress on June 17. Read more about the project here.
