Heden Exercisparken

Heden Exercisparken

Heden’s Exercispark is a 24-hour park and outdoor gym in Göteborg that replaced an empty city lot. Designed as an outdoor activity area for all ages, it is a place to work up a sweat, enjoy a friendly boules challenge, play with little ones, or simply watch the world go by,

Encouraging active lifestyles

In conjunction with a wider area regeneration, the City of Göteborg took the opportunity to improve this forgotten city space. Heden Exerciparken transformed a vacant lot into a living stage for public activity. Athletic, play and leisure activities are separated into zones that take into consideration all ages and abilities; the gym equipment has been adapted to seniors citizens, while providing a challenging workout for all.

The park caters for a multitude of sporting activities, such as beach volleyball, basketball and boules. In the northern part of the park, a children’s playground focuses on active play. A playful running track is punctuated by small soft slopes that add topographical interest, while durable deckchair-inspired seating provides resting places throughout. Cherry, pine and silver birch trees form a natural connection between the park and surrounding avenues of Heden, as well as forming a canopy of shade for visitors on sunny days.
