White Arkitekter wins Government’s Export Prize

We are pleased to announce that during an award ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier today, we were awarded the Swedish Government’s Export Prize for Cultural and Creative Industries. It is the first time an architectural practice has won the prestigious award. We are awarded for “using innovative design to drive the transition to a sustainable future”.

Since 2018, the Government’s Export Prize for Cultural and Creative Industries has been awarded annually to an actor that sets a particularly good example in its field and contributes to Swedish exports and to making Sweden more visible abroad. This year, five actors were nominated and today it was announced that we win this year’s prize which was presented by Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell.

We are honoured to be the first architectural firm to win the government's export prize. It makes us feel proud and at the same time it is a confirmation for the whole industry that we can contribute to positioning Sweden abroad through architecture.
Carl Bäckstrand, Deputy CEO and international director, White Arkitekter

– Due to our strong international presence, we have the opportunity to exchange valuable knowledge with stakeholders in several different markets and work together to create sustainable societies. Collaboration across borders is becoming increasingly important to meet the major challenges we face today, continues Carl Bäckstrand.

Our goal is for all projects to be climate neutral, through design excellence by 2030. With this goal in mind, and with both employees and projects on three continents, we pass on knowledge of sustainability, transformation and timber architecture. The internationalisation of the company has increased significantly in recent years, and in Stuttgart alone our studio has grown from two to twelve employees in a year and a half.

Our ambition is to use the power of architecture to enable sustainable life. As demands for climate neutrality and resource efficiency increase worldwide, our ability to combine design, sustainability and building technology becomes central. Architecture affects people's quality of life and well-being now and in the long term. We want to help developers, cities and contractors to drive change towards a sustainable society while creating value.
