White Arkitekter participates in the UIA World Congress of Architects in Copenhagen

This week the UIA World Congress of Architects with 6000 architects from 120 countries, is taking place in Copenhagen. The congress is the key event for professional and cultural exchange among architects around the globe. We will participate in several seminars and exhibitions within health, bio-based building materials and the role of architecture in relation to nature.

The UIA World Congress of Architecture takes place every third year and gathers architects from around the world to discuss various themes related to architecture. This year’s congress will be held in Copenhagen, and it is the first time it is held in a Nordic country. The theme for this year is “Sustainable futures – leave no one behind” and explores the topics of the future – how we can create a more sustainable built environment together and how we through architecture can achieve the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The opening ceremony took place in the Copenhagen City Hall this Sunday.

It is important that the industry meet. It’s obvious we are all facing same challenges with climate change, equity and social injustice. But when context, regulations, politics and means differs there is a lot to learn from each other. Sharing experiences and knowledge and building strong partnerships is the way forward. Together we innovate new solutions.
Carl Bäckstrand, Deputy CEO and International Director, White Arkitekter

We have been part of the reference group to develop the programme of this year’s congress and will participate in several seminars and exhibitions during the week.

– At White Arkitekter, we are focusing on creating architecture that is climate neutral, nature-based and that promotes health and well-being which is well aligned with the themes of the congress as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

I’m proud that we will share a few of our experiences like the tall timber project Sara Cultural Center in Skellefteå as well as our healthcare project Queen Silvia Children's hospital and nature-based solutions from True Blue in Bergen.
