Our competition proposal for a new office building in Hamburg

Our competition design proposal for the new office and administration building of Wandsbek local authority in Hamburg, is a result of an inspiring collaboration between White Arkitekter, KKP Architekten and Buro Happold.

The aim of the competition was to establish a connection point for various organizational units of the district office Wandsbek. A functional office, as well as, a social and health needs interface between the local authority and the people of Wandsbek.

These requirements guided the design development of the project to create a solution that is welcoming, functional and flexible. The design was urban design and landscape led, mending the fragmented urban context while providing an approachable and easily understood building for the local people.

The innovative low-tech heating and natural ventilation systems combined with a hybrid timber construction system providing a low carbon solution for both embodied energy and operational energy use.

The design team was situated in eight cities throughout Northern Europe and Scandinavia communicating over the internet from our homes and studios under the pandemic restrictions. It was a remarkable and friendly collaboration between professionals with shared understanding and goals.

Unfortunately, we didn’t win, but we would like to congratulation Adept for receiving the first place in the evaluation.
