– Winning this competition is a great honour. Working on the city hall, which is such an important place in Lund, is very exciting. We are looking forward to strengthening the city centre of Lund and making the city hall a natural gathering point for both residents and visitors, says Rebecka Wijk, White’s lead architect for the project.
“’The stage is set’ will activate the entirety of city hall and enables the ensemble of buildings to become precisely the node and gathering space for culture that the programme requested. With a consistently implemented approach, a generous palette of well-knitted solutions enabling both adaptation and future development are created,” writes the jury of the competition.
At city hall, the new entrance level will be designed with an open space for exhibitions and events. It will comprise a new lobby, a restaurant with outdoor seating and several new entrances. A new stage will also be built, and two glass passages connect to a service building with backstage areas. The session hall will be refitted with new, flexible furnishings and the outdoor stage will be moved from the entrance roof to the Stortorget square.
