The new hospital buildings are designed to provide both a welcoming experience at street level and a distinctive landmark within the wider cityscape. The project realises a vision of a hospital integrated into the urban fabric, where new pedestrian routes and publicly accessible ground-floor spaces create a vibrant public realm and new connections. An inclusive design approach, with the ambition of creating a calm and restorative environment, has been a guiding principle throughout
– Everyone involved in the project has worked with great dedication and high ambitions to create a healthcare environment that supports clinical practice and provides the best possible conditions for patients, families and staff. The Highly Commended distinction is a meaningful recognition of the collective effort invested throughout the entire project, says Kjell Nyberg, Lead Architect, White Arkitekter.
People are at the centre of the design of the new healthcare buildings. The design is grounded in evidence-based principles and shaped through extensive collaboration with hospital staff. Creating an inclusive and restorative environment has been a central objective throughout the project. Materials such as timber contribute warmth and a sense of comfort, while views across the city, parkland and surrounding landscape help foster wellbeing for patients, families and staff alike.
