Våghuset – Masthuggskajen in Gothenburg

In the new and expanding Masthuggskajen district, we have designed the 13-storey Våghuset with influences from the heart of Gothenburg – the Göta River. With an undulating glass façade, Våghuset brings strong character, dynamism and elegance to a vibrant district with water as its closest neighbour. In autumn 2022, the tenants moved into a 10,000 square metre smart and efficiently designed office space that reflects the life and movement of the water.

A tribute to water and its movement

Masthuggskajen is a new and expanding district in the western core of Gothenburg. On behalf of NCC, we have designed Våghuset, which literally has Järntorget and the long streets around it on one side and the river on the other. A building that is strongly influenced by the city’s most important landscape element – the river.

The undulating façade of the Våghus pays homage to the water and its movement. The 10,000 square metre, 13-storey building has an eye-catching glass façade that evokes the waves of the river and is brought to life by light and reflections.

Openness, flexibility and views

Inside, the open and flexible floor plans are designed to allow tenants to customise their space to suit their own preferences. Each floor has generous windows that allow daylight to flow deep into the building.

Våghuset is connected to its sister building, Brick Studios, by a lower building with a shared roof terrace that adds to the 1200 square metres of terrace space available to Våghuset tenants. The roof terrace enjoys sunshine from morning to afternoon and has a tantalisingly beautiful view of the Gothenburg bay and the city.

Sustainability as a guiding principle

Our team has designed a sustainable building with healthy and comfortable spaces. Våghuset is a BREEAM-certified building with a rating of Excellent, which means that high demands are placed on the choice of sustainable materials, light penetration and air quality. The Masthuggskajen project, which includes Våghuset and its White-designed sister building Brick Studios, is also the first urban development project to be awarded a sustainable urban development certificate for Citylab projects.
