Modern ornateness
On the shores of Lake Vänern within the Djurö National Park, the visitor centre is designed to defer to its royal counterpart, letting the castle take centre stage. Instead of planting a clearly defined volume on the water’s edge, the visitor pavilion blends into the knotty pines. The rhythm of the vertical ribs on the timber façade reflects the archipelago’s vegetation; its trees and reeds; while serving as a modest ornament to emphasise the movement in the contours of the building. Contrasts between light and shade further reference the Baroque influences of the nearby castle.
