White Arkitekter’s “VÅGA” is the winning proposal in the architecture competition for a new water tower in Varberg, Sweden. Visible from afar, “VÅGA” contains the water in a structure shaped like a stylised and elongated wave.
The C40 global architecture competition "Reinventing Cities" aims to manage climate change and work for better urban health. White Arkitekter’s multidisciplinary team has qualified as finalists in two cities – Oslo and Montreal.
Two completed and one future project have been shortlisted in the World Architecture Festival Awards. White’s designs for Carlanderska Hospital, Chalmers Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering and Panzi Hospital have a chance of winning an award at the World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam this November.
Carlanderska Hospital in Göteborg, Sweden, has provided specialist healthcare to public and private patients since 1927. In 2017, a much-needed extension added space for modern technology. To retain the hospital’s atmosphere, the new structure echoes the original plans while displaying its own unique character.
A glimpse of the enormous play area just off the entry foyer is the first impression upon entering the hospital. The need for an environment resembling home and daily life has put a strong footprint on the design of one of the most advanced children´s hospital in Europe – a safe haven in a time of distress.
On a hill in central Göteborg overlooking the city is an unusual find; affordable rental apartments with high architectural and residential quality. In a time period of a steady growing demand for housing, our cities are being formed by market conditions strongly driven by profit. White has taken a bold initiative in the headwind by acting as both developer and architect to build what we believe in: housing for all.
Open and fluid spaces in the new Department for Architecture and Civil Engineering.
White Arkitekter’s design of Bråtejordet School in Strømmen, Skedsmo Municipality, Norway, has won the municipality’s architecture and urban development prize.
How does architecture and urban planning change when the concept of social sustainability actually moves from words to action? This is the theme for the next breakfast seminar in the series ”Good morning Gothenburg!”, on Friday 23 March.
