Carlanderska Hospital wins ICONIC AWARDS 2019

White Arkiteter’s extension of the Carlanderska Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, has been awarded at the international architecture and design competition ICONIC AWARDS 2019: Innovative Architecture.

”We’re delighted with the fact that the architectural characteristics of the Carlanderska Hospital have been recognised this way. We kept an eye on the original drawings from 1917 but were clear about the extension bringing in the modernity. It was a collaboration between architects of different centuries, in a way”
Ulla Antonsson, Lead Architect

The extension adds a facility comprised of four floors and a basement level to Carlanderska Hospital, housing functions that could not be developed in the existing building; surgery, x-ray and sterilisation. It also added a public restaurant.

The national romantic style gives a strong impression – the large volumes resembling a castle, the high quality of craftmanship of the brick walls. The finished project results of an organic process of design and construction.

The Carlanderska Hospital won in the category ”Public/Culture/Education”. The ceremony will take place in Munich, Germany, in October.
