Värnamo Hospital recieves accolades at the European Healthcare Design Awards

Whites transformation of the Op/ICU clinic at Värnamo Hospital was given the accolade “Highly Commended” at the prestigious European Healthcare Design Awards 2020 in the category “Design for Adaptation and Transformation“.

A major idea behind the design of the transformation of Värnamo Hospital is the re-use of existing buildings. The design concept for the extension was inspired by the original architecture and the end-result is a contemporary design that stands on its own while forming a natural part of the complete hospital structure.

Head architect Anders Medin presented the project at the 2020 European Healthcare Design Congress which, due to Covid-19, was a purely digital event this year:

We’re honored that our work has been acknowledged by the jury. The project has been developed in close collaboration with the hospital management and staff and through this collaborative effort we have managed to create high quality architecture that provide means for healthcare professionals to give efficient and safe care for patients in grave need.

The awards evaluation committee features international researchers, practitioners and policy advisors, who bring specialist multidisciplinary expertise to the specific categories they have been invited to judge. The awards are intended to contribute towards the development of knowledge and standards in the design of healthcare environments around the world.
