Stockholm Wood City – a groundbreaking project

Covering 250,000 square meters in central Sickla, Stockholm Wood City will introduce approximately 7,000 workplaces and 2,000 residential units. This dynamic urban environment will seamlessly integrate offices, homes, restaurants, and shops, all constructed with timber. The project will be developed in stages, with the first buildings anticipated to be completed by 2027.

By emphasizing office spaces, the development addresses the growing need for workplaces south of Stockholm’s city center, helping to reduce commuting times. Climate impact is minimized through locally produced, stored, and shared energy. Sickla’s extensive rooftop solar installations, combined with energy storage in mines and bedrock, position the area at the cutting edge of innovation. Energy storage solutions include electricity, as well as heating and cooling through large underground geothermic reservoirs.

Innovative Urban Planning

The vision for Stockholm Wood City is to establish a vibrant 15-minute city where green, social, and cultural values seamlessly converge. This climate-neutral, circular neighborhood will be entirely built from wood. Existing, culturally significant industrial buildings will be complemented by new mixed-use districts featuring timber structures and abundant greenery on the ground, façades, and rooftops.

Atrium Ljungberg has partnered with leading architectural firms, including White Arkitekter and Henning Larsen Architects, to craft the architectural vision for Stockholm Wood City. The company’s vision is to establish Sickla as the Nordic hub for sustainability, innovation, and well-being, aiming to act as a catalyst for transformative change in the real estate and urban planning sectors.
